Becky Mckinlay

Ceramicist

"I hand sculpted numerous miniature figurines in various closed body language poses and saggar fired these to create the unique markings, these were then waxed to enhance the dark colours and emphasise the imperfections. I experimented with the more positive aspect of relationships and unity and made some family figurines in much lighter, happier tones. I also touched on the idea of being a single parent, sculpting mother and child figures as well as tiles expressing how hard it is, how I became ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’. I developed this further and began to photograph my pieces in order to set the scene, placing my pieces within objects to emphasise the feeling of being trapped and creating shadows within closed spaces."
